Munich. The international world of haute cuisine gathered at BMW Group Classic in Munich last Tuesday for a special occasion: “Chef of the century” Eckart Witzigmann presented the ECKART 2016 named after him to Dominique Crenn, Andreas Caminada, Sebastian Copeland and the Munich Viktualienmarkt. An honorary award was also received by Julia and Tobias Moretti. In just over ten years, the International Eckart Witzigmann Award, ECKART for short, has established itself as one of the highest accolades for outstanding achievements in the art of cookery and fine dining. This was the fifth year the award has been presented in conjunction with the BMW Group. In 2015, NOMA-founder Claus Meyer receives the “ECKART 2015 for Creative Responsibility and Enjoyment”. The prize is endowed with 10.000 EUR. In Summer 2016, the Witzigmann Academy visits the award winner, who talks about his engagement in Brownsville.
Munich. Minister of Arts and Science, Dr. Ludwig Spaenle bestowed the accolade “Pro meritis scientiae et litterarum” on Eckart Witzigmann at a ceremony in Munich.
Minister Spaenle praised Eckart Witzigmann for having brought culinary art to Germany, and to Bavaria in particular. In his laudatory address, the Minister said: “A truly great chef requires the creativity and imagination of an artist. But great cuisine also demands a scientist’s curiosity and thirst for knowledge. These are qualities that Eckart Witzigmann possesses to a very high degree. Munich. The jury appointed by “chef of the century” Eckart Witzigmann has made its selection: This year’s international Eckart Witzigmann Awards (ECKART) will go to Andreas Caminada (Switzerland), Dominique Crenn (USA), Sebastian Copeland (USA) and the Munich Viktualienmarkt (Germany). The awards will be presented at a gala ceremony held for the first time at BMW Group Classic on 18 October 2016. New York City. Claus Meyer, co-founder of the New Nordic Cuisine and the world-famous Noma restaurant, won the ECKART 2015 for “Creative Responsibility and Enjoyment”, partly in recognition of his social commitment in Bolivia. Meyer has since shifted the focus of his activities to New York. The cash award of 10,000 euros endowed by the BMW Group for the ECKART 2015 is now benefiting Meyer’s new project in the disadvantaged neighbourhood of Brownsville in New York City. A delegation from the Witzigmann Academy visited the location to learn more about the social project.
