On 18 October 2016, Julia and Tobias Moretti, Austria, receive the Honorary ECKART 2016, presented by Eckart Witzigmann at the BMW Group Classic in Munich.
In 2015, NOMA-founder Claus Meyer receives the “ECKART 2015 for Creative Responsibility and Enjoyment”. The prize is endowed with 10.000 EUR. In Summer 2016, the Witzigmann Academy visits the award winner, who talks about his engagement in Brownsville.
Munich. Minister of Arts and Science, Dr. Ludwig Spaenle bestowed the accolade “Pro meritis scientiae et litterarum” on Eckart Witzigmann at a ceremony in Munich.
Minister Spaenle praised Eckart Witzigmann for having brought culinary art to Germany, and to Bavaria in particular. In his laudatory address, the Minister said: “A truly great chef requires the creativity and imagination of an artist. But great cuisine also demands a scientist’s curiosity and thirst for knowledge. These are qualities that Eckart Witzigmann possesses to a very high degree. Munich. The jury appointed by “chef of the century” Eckart Witzigmann has made its selection: This year’s international Eckart Witzigmann Awards (ECKART) will go to Andreas Caminada (Switzerland), Dominique Crenn (USA), Sebastian Copeland (USA) and the Munich Viktualienmarkt (Germany). The awards will be presented at a gala ceremony held for the first time at BMW Group Classic on 18 October 2016. New York City. Claus Meyer, co-founder of the New Nordic Cuisine and the world-famous Noma restaurant, won the ECKART 2015 for “Creative Responsibility and Enjoyment”, partly in recognition of his social commitment in Bolivia. Meyer has since shifted the focus of his activities to New York. The cash award of 10,000 euros endowed by the BMW Group for the ECKART 2015 is now benefiting Meyer’s new project in the disadvantaged neighbourhood of Brownsville in New York City. Vienna/Munich. Heinz Reitbauer, winner of the ECKART 2014, will be named “Chef of the Decade” by Gault Millau on 6 September 2016. The award provides further recognition of Reitbauer’s culinary concept, responsible handling of food products and consistently high standards at the Stadtpark in Vienna. Heinz Reitbauer and his father won the Eckart Witzigmann Award for the “Art of Cookery” in 2014. The ECKART is an international award presented in four categories, acknowledging achievements in the art of cooking and fine dining, as well as a responsible approach to nutrition. The ECKART is awarded in conjunction with the BMW Group. Munich. The BMW Group and the Witzigmann Academy are continuing their cooperation
to promote sustainability and social responsibility in the culinary arts and nutrition. The two
partners have explored current developments and various aspects of fine dining at a
number of symposiums and field trips since 2012, with intensive discussions of its
significance for everyday nutrition and company catering. At the Witzigmann Symposium
on 28 June 2016 at the BMW Museum in Munich, experts will discuss what has already
been achieved at the BMW Group, as well as the challenges of sustainable nutrition for

BMW Museum hosted a grand gala event for the presentation of the Eckart Witzigmann Award 2015 on Tuesday. “Chef of the century” Eckart Witzigmann paid tribute to fellow chef Massimo Bottura, the Troigros family of restaurateurs and the father of Nordic cuisine, Claus Meyer. Awards were also presented for contemporary German gastronomy, represented by three of its outstanding exponents: Ulrike Thieltges, Klaus Erfort and Melanie Wagner.
