ECKART 2017: BMW Group and Eckart Witzigmann Academy step up cooperation 

Renowned culinary award launches world tour in Paris 

 

Munich. The BMW Group and “chef of the century” Eckart Witzigmann are strengthening their joint commitment to the culinary arts, nutrition and social responsibility. At the same time, they are sharpening the focus of the International Eckart Witzigmann Award, ECKART for short, in their fifth year of collaboration. The award will become more global in its efforts to create an international stage for sustainability, quality and responsible nutrition. Award ceremonies will also be held outside of Germany in the future, starting in France: The ECKART 2017 will be presented in the country that invented haute cuisine.

Award ceremony at BMW Group Classic with outstanding gala dinner

 

Munich. The international world of haute cuisine gathered at BMW Group Classic in Munich last Tuesday for a special occasion: “Chef of the century” Eckart Witzigmann presented the ECKART 2016 named after him to Dominique Crenn, Andreas Caminada, Sebastian Copeland and the Munich Viktualienmarkt. An honorary award was also received by Julia and Tobias Moretti.

Munich. The jury appointed by “chef of the century” Eckart Witzigmann has made its selection: This year’s international Eckart Witzigmann Awards (ECKART) will go to Andreas Caminada (Switzerland), Dominique Crenn (USA), Sebastian Copeland (USA) and the Munich Viktualienmarkt (Germany). The awards will be presented at a gala ceremony held for the first time at BMW Group Classic on 18 October 2016.

ECKART 2015 award winner Claus Meyer uses prize money for social project

Witzigmann Academy visits Brownsville, New York City

 

New York City. Claus Meyer, co-founder of the New Nordic Cuisine and the world-famous Noma restaurant, won the ECKART 2015 for “Creative Responsibility and Enjoyment”, partly in recognition of his social commitment in Bolivia. Meyer has since shifted the focus of his activities to New York. The cash award of 10,000 euros endowed by the BMW Group for the ECKART 2015 is now benefiting Meyer’s new project in the disadvantaged neighbourhood of Brownsville in New York City. A delegation from the Witzigmann Academy visited the location to learn more about the social project.

Further recognition for ECKART award winners Heinz Reitbauer and Massimo Bottura

Heinz Reitbauer named “chef of the decade”; Massimo Bottura’s Osteria “La Francescana” world’s best restaurant

 

Vienna/Munich. Heinz Reitbauer, winner of the ECKART 2014, will be named “Chef of the Decade” by Gault Millau on 6 September 2016. The award provides further recognition of Reitbauer’s culinary concept, responsible handling of food products and consistently high standards at the Stadtpark in Vienna. Heinz Reitbauer and his father won the Eckart Witzigmann Award for the “Art of Cookery” in 2014. The ECKART is an international award presented in four categories, acknowledging achievements in the art of cooking and fine dining, as well as a responsible approach to nutrition. The ECKART is awarded in conjunction with the BMW Group.

From theory to practice – Witzigmann Symposium 2016

BMW Group and Witzigmann Academy step up their

commitment to sustainable company catering

Munich. The BMW Group and the Witzigmann Academy are continuing their cooperation to promote sustainability and social responsibility in the culinary arts and nutrition. The two partners have explored current developments and various aspects of fine dining at a number of symposiums and field trips since 2012, with intensive discussions of its significance for everyday nutrition and company catering. At the Witzigmann Symposium on 28 June 2016 at the BMW Museum in Munich, experts will discuss what has already been achieved at the BMW Group, as well as the challenges of sustainable nutrition for everyone in the chain, from the producer to the consumer.

In June 2015, Theresa Geisel and Lejla Beganovic travelled to the Philippine island of Bohol on behalf of the Witzigmann Academy to visit surfing legend Jon Rose. Here, Rose and his Waves4Water (W4W) organisation are helping provide locals affected by earthquake and typhoons with clean drinking water. Jon Rose talks about his mission, how the prize money is being used and how the project works.

Representatives of the Witzigmann Academy visit ECKART prize-winner and surfing legend Jon Rose in the Philippines to talk about his “Waves4Water” project and how he has invested his grant.

 

Munich/Bohol (Philippines). “Clean water for everyone who needs it” – the mission of Jon Rose and his Waves4Water (W4W) organisation is beguilingly simple. In October 2014, surfing legend Rose was presented with the ECKART 2014 for Creative Responsibility and Enjoyment at the BMW Museum in Munich. The prize is endowed by the BMW Group with a grant of 10,000 euros, which Rose is using for an assistance intervention in the Philippines. This summer he was visited by a delegation from the Witzigmann Academy.
